Updating

With the End of Life of CHILI publisher (On Premise) this information is obsolete, and only kept as reference.

CHILI publisher now lives on as GraFx Publisher in the platform of CHILI GraFx

Before executing an upgrade please back up your installation. (When running virtual servers you could consider to take a snapshot before to continue).

You can download the latest version of the update files in the online documentation ("Release Notes" section).

Downtime

The update procedure of CHILI Publisher (either manually or using the updater application) only takes a few minutes, and results in very limited downtime. Next to that, it also minimizes interruption for users. The update consists of 2 large parts:

  • Updating the ASP.NET web application. This will automatically reset, and should not cause any significant downtime

  • Updating the Windows Service: during the update the service is temporarily stopped. For about 1 minute, incoming tasks won't be processed. They will be picked up again once the service is restarted, though

Of course it is recommended to perform an update at least during periods of low activity.

Automated Update

The "update.cmd" file within the update's file directory will launch an application which performs basically the same steps.
The update tool also provides a visual interface for the main configuration files.

Upon first launch, you'll need to select the installation paths of the various components (if applicable), and select the appropriate checkboxes:

Manual Update

Please note: manual update is no longer supported for newer versions (>version 4.0) unless specified. Please use the auto updater for update in newer versions.

1. In the windows services stop ChiliService
2. UPDATE_FILES\Server_Update\web.zip: unzip to the web application (typically c:/inetpub/wwwroot/CHILI, but this may have been configured differently on your server)
3. UPDATE_FILES\Server_Update\service.zip: unzip to c:/Program Files (x86)/CHILI Publish/CHILI Service
4. Start ChiliService
5. Test your installation.
6. Enjoy your new features

Updating the configuration

The CHILI Publisher application components have some XML files which are specific to the component. Most of the configuration is done within CHILI's data directory, though.

Within the configuration files, you can configure:

  • The location of the CHILI base data directory (NOTE: modifying this will point all CHILI components to a new location, but it won't actually move existing data files. Those would have to be moved manually, if needed)

  • A path to a local temp directory (if not configured, DATA_DIR\temp is used as a default. But since this may be on a network share, it could lead to reduced performance)

  • The amount of background processes for the Windows Service

  • Connection information for the Windows Service

You can find the configuration files on:

  • Web application: INSTALL_PATH\App_Data\config.xml

  • Windows Service: INSTALL_PATH\config.xml

NOTE: XML is case sensitive, and the two configuration files have different cases for the attributes used. If you update them manually, please only use the existing attributes to be certain!
