Upcoming CDN Migration: Switching from Azure Front Door to Cloudflare

On October 10th, 2024, we will be switching from Azure Front Door to Cloudflare as our content delivery network (CDN) provider. This change has been successfully implemented on our sandbox environment since August, and we are confident it will enhance the reliability and performance of your experience with us.

Reason for the Change

We are making this switch to leverage Cloudflare’s extensive global network, which will help provide a more reliable experience and security for both users and developers.

Scheduled Switchover

  • Date: October 10th, 2024

  • Time: Between 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM (CET)

Potential Impact

For most customers, this transition will be seamless, as traffic shifts gradually from Azure Front Door to Cloudflare.

However, we have identified a few scenarios where you may need to take action:

  1. Hostname Caching:
Some applications cache hostnames at startup and do not refresh them during subsequent requests.

    • Action: Restarting the application should clear the cache.

  2. Reverse Proxy:
If you are using a reverse proxy, please be aware that Cloudflare now applies gzip compression when requested via the "accept-encoding" header in incoming requests. This differs from the previous behavior in Azure Frontdoor, which did not apply compression. Since reverse proxies can alter both requests and responses, it's important to ensure that these requests are processed correctly.

    • Action: Verify that the Publisher functions properly with your reverse proxy setup in your sandbox environment.

  3. Private DNS:
If a private DNS server is being used, it may need to be updated to align with changes made to public DNS servers.

    • Action: Verify that your private DNS server will work with changes already on sandbox environment URLs.

How to Prepare

Please review the potential impact with your technical team to determine whether any of the above scenarios apply to your environment. Taking these steps will help ensure a smooth transition.
