Color Accuracy
CHILI Publisher is a very powerful product that focusses on content editing.
Although we support the standard general prepress concepts [overprint, knock-out, spot colors] our focus remains on content editing.
When we talk about preflighting, we talk about content related preflighting. [f.e. text overflow]. this differs from "Prepress preflighting" where the focus of the check is on technical, print related, matter.
This is similar for colors. You will find that there are differences between monitors and differences between screen and print. This is related to the technology of the device(s). CHILI Publisher aims to be a WYSIWYG document editor. Of course this does imply that the colors should be as close as possible to the output, as far as non-experts are concerned. Magenta should look like magenta, not like pink. And embedded color profiles in assets should reflect not only in the output PDF, but also provide a reasonable semblance in the preview thumbnails. If more is needed, CHILI's API can be used to (in real-time, if the other solution supports it as well):
- Generate a PDF of the document (or the work in progress)
- Pass it to a specialized online proofing solution
- Open that solution in a popup or in a next step of the workflow
The pdf file created with CHILI Publisher however will of course preserve the correct color values for RGB, CMYK, Lab, Spot colors as well as the color profiles that might be embedded in your images so you can transfer the files to a prepress workflow.
