Snippet Resources

Concept

A snippet can be seen as a "document within a document", it is a page with content (text, images, variables etc) that can be loaded into a document as a self-contained layout.

The layout is grouped together in a frame and can be resized & rotated as any other frame.

Using Snippets

Snippets are created by drag 'n' drop a document file (previously prepared for this purpose) from the Snippets resources panel.

Go to Resources tab > Snippets panel

Snippets resources panel:

• Place As Frames: will place the snippet as individual frames, no longer grouped as a whole. Use this when direct access is needed to the frames of a snippet.

If a snippet is not placed as frames but direct access is needed later on, that can be done with the Convert to frames command in the snippet settings panel.

• Save Inside Document: embeds the snippet in the current active document.
• Place at original size: places the snippet the same size it was saved.

Snippet settings panel:

• Select Snippet: loads snippet content in the current frame.
• Clear Snippet: removes content from the current frame.
• Convert to frames: ungroups the snippet into its elements.
• Fit: controls how snippet elements are fitted into its frame:
  • Frame: keeps the frame aspect ratio of both the frame and elements
  • Proportional: frame can be freely resized, the elements are proportionally resized
  • Snippet Dimensions: resets to its orginal snippet frame dimensions, resize is not possible.
  • Resize Snippet Doc: resize the frame only.

Anchor: anchoring position of the snippet elements in the frame.

Variables

Snippets can have variables on their own, which are transferred into the document. The input fields are listed in their own panel, in the document's Variables panel.

This way its convenient to see which inputs belong to snippets, apart from the document ones.

The variables themselves are listed in the variable data panel, along with other (document) variables.
