Variable Data in Snippets
Concept
A snippet is another CHILI Document, placed inside a master document. If the snippet has been placed as a "saved inline" version (an option available either manually or through External Snippet XML), any variables inside the snippet can also be edited through a separate input Panel once the snippet frame has been selected inside the document.
External Data
Snippets can be choosen by the user from within the Snippet Feed Panel (which presents the user with a configurable view on CHILI's document management resource), or from within the "External Snippets" Panel. In the latter case, an XML format is provided by the portal embedding CHILI Editor, which describes the navigation and available snippets. This can also contain variable data, which is automatically applied to the snippet as it is dragged into a document. See ?External Snippets XML for more information on the XML structure.
Applying master variables
Variables from the master document can be automatically applied to placed snippets if their "apply to snippets" checkbox (in the "Variable Settings" Panel) is selected.
Convert To Frames
When a snippet is converted to frames, all links to variable data is removed.
