Suppressing Lines
Option 1: prefix/suffix
Prefix and suffix can be configured for a variable in the "Variable Settings" panel. These values are placed before/after the actual display value of the variable when placed in a text. But when the value of a variable is empty, neither prefix nor suffix is used. This means you can use a return as prefix, and have it populated only when there actually is a value for the variable. And when tagging the document you could place various variables on the same line (which means they get separated because of the prefix).
For example:
%Function%%Fax%%Telephone%
The function variable doesnt require any settings.
The "Fax" variable could have:
.prefix = return + "fax: "
The "Telephone" variable could have:
.prefix = return + "tel: "
This could result in the following output:
============
General Manager
fax: XXXXX
tel: YYYY
===========
Or if no value is given for the "fax" variable:
===========
General Manager
tel: YYYY
==========
Option 2: Remove Paragraph if var. is empty
If checked in the "Variable Settings" panel, each paragraph in which the variable appears is removed from the generated text (including other variables which may be present in the paragraph).
Option 3: Remove all empty paragraphs
If checked, ALL empty paragraphs are removed from the generated text after populating all variable values.
NOTE: this does not include returns/soft breaks.
Option 4: Conditional text
See the page on Conditional texts for more information.
